The signatory artists denounce that “by continuing to give a platform to the representation of the Israeli state, the EBU is normalizing and covering up its crimes.”
Madrid: More than 70 former Eurovision artists signed a joint letter this Tuesday demanding that the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) expel Israel from the competition due to the war in Gaza. Specifically, they accuse the KAN of being “complicit in Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.”
Eurovision seeks to make history in 2025 and is negotiating against the clock for its most anticipated performance in years. The signatory artists criticized the EBU: “By continuing to give a platform to the representation of the Israeli state, the EBU is normalizing and covering up its crimes.” The letter follows a request sent by RTVE to the EBU to request a debate on Spain’s and Slovenia’s participation, which elicited no response.
Among the list of artists who have committed to the cause are Salvador Sobral (representative of Portugal in 2017 and winner of the Eurovision Song Contest), La Zarra (representative of France in 2023), Mae Muller (representative of the United Kingdom in 2023) and Charlie McGettigan (representative of Ireland in 1994 and winner alongside Paul Harrington at the Eurovision Song Contest).
